Based on my trip to Southeast Asia this summer, I wanted to share with you some of my best budget-friendly destinations and tips for backpacking so that you can experience the wonderful cultures and memories that wait for you in Southeast Asia.

There are several key factors to consider when choosing an affordable route for your trip to Southeast Asia. Here are a couple we find particularly important.

- Why it’s budget-friendly: Vietnam offers incredible bang for your buck. If you stay in hosels you can pay anywhere from $5-10 USD per night and about $20-30 for comfortable guesthouses. You will have some of the best street for of your life for as low as $1-2, and gourmet restaurant meals rarely exceed $5-10. Local transportation, like buses and trains, is very affordable, with long-distance bus journeys costing around $10-20.
